View westward, towards Machynlleth and the Coast (ahead). The Mid-Wales line to Llanidloes, Builth and Brecon started from here, using separate platforms that are out of frame to the left, as is the line which curved away immediately. Two LMS Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0s can be seen, one of them on the 16.15 Newtown to Machynlleth local train. The station was closed on 31/12/62, when the Mid-Wales line was closed (apart from a goods service to Llanidloes until 2/10/67). (A lovely view in the upper reaches of the Severn Valley, with perhaps its source, Plynlimon, on the horizon).
