St Faith's church in Gaywood - stained glass

Stained glass window by Powell & Sons. St Faith's church > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2019414 has been much rebuilt over the decades and the only original parts of the building are its C14 brick tower, the Norman north doorway > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2019442 and some of the windows, which were reset. The most recent restoration work was carried out in the 1920s by architect Walter Caroe, who completely rebuilt the nave and added the aisles. The church has several interesting features dating from the 17th century such as the octagonal baptismal font > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2019529 with inscriptions in Latin and English, and two contemporary painted panels that can be seen on the south aisle wall: one is inscribed "In memory of the Gunpowder Treason Plot", the other depicts Queen Elizabeth at Tilbury in 1588 after the defeat of the Armada > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2019526. The elaborately carved reredos > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2019460 and pulpit > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2019475 - the latter being described by some as probably the best of its time in the county - are by Norman Hitch of London. The church has a number of good stained glass windows by Powell & Sons > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2019507 and one modern window by Suffolk stained glass artist Rosemary Rutherford > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2019490. The church is shared with the Gaywood Methodists.
