An apparently unofficial sign asked people to desist from using this scrap of wooded common for bike jumps. However, a much larger area of common across the lane has been taken over (much more obtrusively) for a cricket pitch and tennis courts. Why so selective in disapproving of sports? This scrap of common seems to have little botanical merit, and a variety of insects appreciate some bare ground which would otherwise be covered in bracken - so these jumps improve the biodiversity.
