This is one of 60 SuperDragons that appeared in various locations in Newport in mid-July 2010. This one is located at the southern end of Newport bus station. Its black and amber colours are dedicated to Newport County football team, winners of the 2009-2010 Blue Square South, finishing an astonishing 28 points ahead of the second-placed team. A plaque on the sculpture also commemorates the original Newport County team (1912-1989) The SuperDragons are part of Newport Festival 2010. They are all the same basic shape but are coloured and designed differently. Other designs include a flashing coloured-lights dragon, a zebra pattern http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1971008, and one made from recycled materials. The SuperDragons will be auctioned off at the end of October 2010 with proceeds going to the official Ryder Cup charity Tenovus and the Born Free Foundation.
