Silage bales from earlier in the Summer. Round bales are wrapped in polythene which is now usually recycled. This method of anaerobic fermentation of grass appeared in the 1980s when large "bin bags" were used. Modern wrappings are lighter and use less plastic. The wrappings are usually recycled.
