A recently created bee bank. These bee banks are being created on a number of heathland sites in Surrey. The turves are stripped of from an area of heath and then used to make a south facing earth bank to give some of the rare ground nesting hymenoptera an ideal nesting place. The heather will recolonise the stripped area, which will give the Silver Studded Blue butterfly the right habitat to breed. Truly a win-win situation!
