The road was originally only developed (from the far end) as far as the gabled house, as this marked the boundary between Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. The nearer houses, when originally developed, were still in Nottinghamshire despite being part of a development by the Long Eaton Urban District Council, a Derbyshire authority, although subsequent boundary changes have regularised the position.
