The working narrowboat approaching is called Cactus and is carrying coal. There are still quite a few individually operated such vessels to be seen, often carrying coal, wood/logs and diesel fuel. Some of the old ones have been spectacularly well restored and maintained. Note: this boat was built for Fellows, Morton and Clayton in 1935 (No 329), and was their 100th motor narrowboat.
