In the background is the Prior's Chamber, the other side from Image On the right is an earlier version of Image As the Image explains, this stone was first erected on the shore at Chalkwell in 1755 and brought here in 1950. This stone is very similar to the older of Image right down the words "God preserve the City of London" on the face visible here and the shield of the City on the rear. The stone at Upnor is dated 1204 so we can be pretty confident that when this stone was erected in 1755, it was replacing an older stone.
