Reredos in St Agnes' Church

This fine marble by Sir Joseph Boehm (1834-90), Sculptor in Ordinary to Scotland, shows St Agnes, patron of the church, being borne to heaven by cherubim after her martyrdom in the Roman Coliseum - though for a long time it was mistakenly supposed to represent the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. Hidden behind a curtain for many years, it has recently been cleaned and restored.
