Two metallic spherical fountains were installed in John Frost Square at the end of May 2010. The steel water features are part of a £3.8 million city enhancement programme funded by the Welsh Assembly. The intent is to improve public areas for residents and visitors to the Ryder Cup, to be held in October at the Celtic Manor Resort in the east of the city. Other work completed in the square includes the painting of disused shops and newly-laid yellow tarmac to brighten up the area as well as new benches and bins.
