The present church, which is still being used, was built in 1844 to replace a 12th. century chapel which was dedicated in 1242 by David de Bernham, Archbishop of St. Andrews. A 16th. century priest at Lunan, Walter Mill, was executed, and martyred to the reformed kirk, at St. Andrews.
