The pub has had a controversial recent past http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/4580350.Pub_faces_closure_unless_buyer_found/ and http://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/news/4817414.Pub_couple_locked_out_by_bailiffs/ but may have been sold since the later of those reports. It looks as if some activity is taking place. The heyday of the pub was in the decades that the Midland and Southwestern Junction Railway (M&SWJR) ran past it with a station close by. In addition, there was a large army camp just outside the village and one imagines that rail passengers and soldiers provided a good customer base. Sadly the line closed in 1961 and the camp soon afterwards.
