There are small stands either side of the pavilion, but elsewhere seats on the grass. Enthusiasts have arrived early to book their spots for the first day of the Kent-Notts County Championship match, on a perfect June day on which the visitors were happy to win the toss and bat. Net practice is going on, but the Notts players will shortly have a rustic football kick-about which will prove they made the right career choice.
