Arguably British Rail's greatest triumph, the world's fastest diesel train is still in service more than 30 years after its introduction on the Western Region. Unhappily, time takes its toll. This HST disgraced itself thoroughly by means of a defective power car, leaving Oxford for London almost 30 minutes after its scheduled 17.36 departure and delaying several following trains too.
