Looking down a kink in Church Lane as it travels between Ripe and Chalvington. The entrance to Eckington manor is on the left whilst beyond the hogweed to the right is Ripe church. Straight ahead are the barns belonging to Church Farm. Eckington was sometimes the name given to the village of Ripe though both are of some antiquity as they are mentioned in the Domesday Book. Ripe in old English means 'the edge' which may refer to the small ridge of land it occupies or the fact the settlement was the outer part of Eckington.
