The new Morrisons store is built on the old carpet manufacturing site beside the river's Back Brook branch. The river through the town was used by the industry to provide water for the wool dyeing process and to take away the waste. The decline of the industry and control of discharges in the 1960s led to an improvement in the river quality and this recent landscaping will allow this to act as a 'green corridor'.
