Today is 6th May 2010, the day of a General Election. The village hall has been taken over for the day by the Returning Officer for the Parliamentary constituency of Swindon North. It is 60th on the list of parliamentary seats which the Conservatives have targeted for a possible win. The boundaries of the seat have changed slightly since 2005 and the swing to the Tories of 6.2% from the notional (corrected for the changes) 2005 result would be enough to see it go blue. The full list of candidates in alphabetical order is as follows: Victor Agarwal Labour Reginald Bates British National Party Stephen Halden UK Independence Party Bill Hughes Green Jane Lock Liberal Democrat Justin Tomlinson Conservative The erstwhile incumbent Labour MP is not standing for re-election so whoever wins will be a new face in Westminster. Update 7th May 2010: Justin Tomlinson was elected with a 10.1% swing from Labour, with a majority of 7,060 and with 44.6% of the vote.
