Car Park due for demolition, Shrubhill

A monstrous structure, whose demolition will not be mourned, is the 1960s multi-storey car park which for half a century added nothing to an already unimpressive stretch of Leith Walk. And yet, seen here in isolation, its simple, functional design looks better than it ever did in context. Middlefield House and the spire of Pilrig Church can be seen to the left; the houses of Leith Walk at the entrance to Albert Street are on the right. The open ground is Shrub Place, currently subjected to a planning dispute.
