Salome and Jabez

Image: © Richard Croft Taken: 23 Apr 2010

Unusual headstone in Holy Trinity churchyard for the unusually named Salome Hunt who died in 1918. The biblical Salome is an icon of dangerous female seductiveness - a strange choice of christian name by her Victorian parents ? The upper part remembers her husband Jabez Hunt who died in 1901 - the biblical Jabez was an illegitimate child who redeemed himself through prayer
