A "Welcome to Lancashire" plaque is a relic of the pre-1974 local government re-organisation days when the boundary with Yorkshire used to pass across the canal here. This can be quite confusing as the present day boundary is several miles further north near Barnoldswick in Imageat bridge number 158.
