Itchington Bottom Lock near Stockton in Warwickshire

This was the Warwick and Napton Canal, opened 1799, and since 1929 has been part of the Grand Union Canal. There are two locks near Long Itchington, which really start the climb including eight more in the Stockton flight. This lock raises (or lowers) the water by 6ft 7in (two metres). The concreted foreground path is over the former narrow lock which was replaced in the 1930s when eight independent canal companies merged into the Grand Union.
