Villa, built in 1844 for Robert Hawthorn, locomotive manufacturer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R_and_W_Hawthorn From 1920 to 1969 it was run by Newcastle Diocesan Council for Moral Welfare as a mother's and babies home.
