Controversially filled in by the quarry company in 2006 http://kreag.org.uk/newcross.html it has been largely inactive since. The company thought to create some developable land. Planning permission was refused and a subsequent appeal rejected. However it seems likely that this land will be developed sooner or later. Meanwhile, several businesses have established themselves on the far side of the site by Broadway Road. Beyond that are more disused claypits either side of the River Teign, overlooked by Newton Abbot's hilltop suburbs.
