Looking east from the junction with High Street, the Elizabethan Whitgift Hospital (almshouses) and Allder's department store are seen on the left. The tram, destined for Wimbledon, is at the George Street stop, and although private vehicles are not banned from this street, not many use it, for obvious reasons.
