Now a retirement home, Cove House was once owned by the Reverend Carus Wilson, Vicar of Tunstall, Whittington and Casterton, as a holiday home. He established the school at Cowan Bridge (1842) attended by several of the Brontë sisters. They may possibly have visited Silverdale although there is no evidence of this. Elizabeth Gaskell used to spend summers at nearby Lindeth Tower http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/828604 and Charlotte Brontë was a friend so the literary connections may not be too tenuous.
