Obelisk

The obelisk is, surprisingly, not a monument. It is part of the pipeline supplying water from the Mendips to Bristol and conceals a standpipe allowing air to vent from the underground pipeline. It had to be high enough to prevent any possible overflow of water, and the obelisk form conceals its utilitarian nature.
