Looking north across completed River Itchen flood defence work south of Long Itchington. The original course of the river has been diverted and a higher embankment built to protect the village. As well as realignment of the river, the scheme included repairs to concrete flood defence walls and the establishment of a wetland nature reserve. The scheme was carried out by the Environment Agency between August and November 2009.
