I have been informed by a previous resident that the house was built for Joseph Cartwright in 1888. The smaller house to the right, in the same style, looks like a converted coach-house but is modern; there was a planning application for a house here in 2004. There was an acacia tree on its site. The stables were at the bottom of the garden, towards the canal, and there was also a tennis court in the garden.
