A special remembrance service was held on Sunday 15th November 2009. Craigavon Borough Council is adopting this Second World War "pillbox" on the Tandragee Road, Portadown as a show piece to remember all those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our country in the Second World War. The old concrete construction- one of seven within the Craigavon Borough Council area was due to be demolished with the building of the development Annagh Meadows, nearby, which was under construction in 2001. Alderman Woolsey Smith and two WW2 veterans, John Fiddes and John Kane, both of whom have sadly passed away since, persuaded the DoE's Heritage Service to act and save it. See Image
