Some claim that the massive Linton yew is actually the oldest tree in England. Estimates of its age lie between 2,000 and 4,000 years old. The tree is still recovering from serious fire damage in October 1998. It is easily possible to walk around inside the large hollow trunk, and like so many trees like this, it becomes an all-to-easy target for deliberate fire-setting.
