Looking west, the cutting is part of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. The new works are the re-instating of the N to E part of Olive Mount Junction to give direct access to the line to Bootle and North Docks. The houses on the right are built on the site of the headshunt of the Edge Hill 'gridiron' of sidings.
