Opened June 23rd 1882 as Bradford Technical School an expansion of the education facilities that began with the 1832 Bradford Mechanics Institute mainly on the woollen and engineering trades then a century later in 1982 the school merged with Ilkley College and became known as Bradford and Ilkley Community College in 1999 Ilkley College closed so the institution became known as Bradford College there was a proposal to merge with the University but was called off in 2003 it is now a further and higher education college leading up to postgraduate level validated by Leeds Metropolitan University
