This Civil War battle was fought on 16 May 1643. It is one of 47 national battlefield sites on English Heritage's Register of Battlefields. Against apparently overwhelming odds of almost 2:1 the Royalists defeated the Parliamentarians, securing Cornwall, with its tin mines and ports, for the Royalist cause.
