'Shopfronts' located between Spencer Street/Salisbury Road, Marsh Lane, Bootle.

The rather sad looking shop premises were once part of a thriving number of shops that were located along the length of Marsh Lane between the wars and in the immediate post-war era, 1918-1955. For many years Marsh Lane was one of the primary routes taken by road traffic to and from the North Liverpool dock system (Alexandra, Hornby and Gladstone Docks) and was a much busier and bustling place than it is nowadays. To the left of the photograph, the open space where the cars are parked, was once the location of Bert Horton's second-hand shop and store. Bert was a well-known character on Marsh Lane during the post WW2 years, and his store a 'magnet' for the curious!
