The convenience store here also used to be Heatherlands Post Office, although the post office was accessed separately, by a door in this side wall, level with or immediately behind the postbox as we look here. (It shared the same address as the shop, 403 Ashley Road.) The post office closed on 9 April 2003. This explains why the postbox here is a large one, and it is emptied finally at 5:30pm on weekdays and at 11:30am on Saturdays. The post office branch was named Constitution Hill from its opening in 1881 to its being renamed Heatherlands on 2 May 1892.
