This tall and narrow public house is located at 8, North Bar Within, Beverley. It is thought that the name Beverley is derived from the Anglo-Saxon "Beoferlic", meaning "Beaver clearing in the woods", and probably refers to the beavers that used to live in and around the River Hull as it passed Beverley. Although the beavers no longer frequent the area, the town's crest depicts a beaver by water.
