The story here is common to many small villages. For years there has been a small post office in Wilstone which also sold food and other essentials to locals, many of whom, through age and poverty, could not drive to supermarkets in nearby towns. Wilstone post office closed last year because the Royal Mail has to make a profit – whatever the cost to the local community. A brave couple have reopened the shop – but will it succeed? People who fail to support their local village shop when young and healthy should not complain when they get old and can no longer drive ... Wherever you live support your local shops or they may not be there when you need them. LATER: Due to lack of support the shop closed at the end of August 2009. LATER STILL: It reopened in October 2009, run by local people.
