The Gaumont Company's New Victoria cinema opened in 1930 with a seating capacity for over 2,000 patrons. In 1982, the interior was sub-divided into a three-screen cinema. After a brief spell as the major venue of the Edinburgh Film Festival, the cinema closed in 2003 and still awaits a developer.
