The canal in this Geograph show an interesting feature and are worth comparing. Where the trees totally overhang the canal there are no reeds. Where the hedges on either are low or absent the reeds grow in profusion. In this case, a thin hedge (as shown by the sunlight breaking through) on the towpath side, and no hedge on the other side, results in a patch of reeds covering much of the width of the canal.
