The B2118 though until the early 1990s this was part of the A23 a notorious bottleneck where the dual carriageway from the south became a single lane as it travelled through the villages of Albourne and Sayers Common and made worse by the junctions of the B2116 to Hurstpierpoint in the east and Henfield in the west the junction of the latter can be seen in the distance. Whilst much of what is the modern day A23 is relatively recent this stretch from Sayers Common in the north to Newtimber in the south is an ancient route and forms the eastern boundary of Albourne parish.
