Around 1803 construction of a line of Georgian houses began near the sea. This eventually became known as South Terrace and the area around it was locally called ‘Beach Town’ as it was still separated from the rest of the town. Building was extended west toward Pier Rd in the 1860’s ‘80’s and 90’s.
