A southbound Cross Country service climbs up to Leamington Spa station, having got under the Grand Union Canal aqueduct, top. It is a non-stop downhill run from Birmingham New Street via Solihull: an exhilarating ride. This route is used by services between north-east England and the south coast. Manchester services go via Coventry and Birmingham International. The franchise was formerly operated by Virgin Cross Country: same short, crowded trains, different livery.
