Alas, the A31 is so straight and narrow and the traffic so fast that there are usually two or three holes being repaired at any given time, like painting the Forth Bridge. Damage varies from slightly shifted rows of bricks to nearly 100 yards of wall brought down. Drax Wall was built in 1841 and is up to 8 feet high containing 2 million bricks, with buttresses 10 feet apart. On average, a new hole appears every month. Charborough Park is private so the photographer sought permission to take this photo.
