One of the Metropolitan Police car pounds in South London for cars found to be unlicensed, parked on red routes, etc. PLEASE NOTE: Please do not "contact the contributor" if your car is here, as I have nothing to do with the operation! The area on which the car pound is sited was formerly owned both by British Railways and prior to that the Southern Railway and before that the South-Eastern and Chatham Railway. The latter built its signal works here. BR used the works for preparing wooden sleepers for track works, but with increasing use of concrete sleepers the works were closed by BR, I think sometime in the early 1970s. The line curving round just north of the "Angerstein Works" label on the map is the Angerstein Wharf branch heading towards the Thames, which features in several other contributors' pictures.
