The classical style front of this building dates from 1845 when it was built as the Corn Exchange. However it never appears to have fulfilled its original role, being too far from the livestock market. In 1914 it became the Exchange Cinema and was improved and upgraded as the Palace Theatre cinema in the 1930's. After a period of decline and eventual closure it has found a new life as a small shopping arcade with cinema above.
