Old Shoreham Road

An ancient east-west route that follows the course of an old Roman road and remained an important route throughout the ages becoming the main A27 during the motoring age. The road was made a dual carriageway from here to Shoreham in the 1960s and then redesignated A270 when the Brighton bypass was built in the early 1990s. At this point the road is about to pass by Hove Cemetery which can be seen on the left with another extension on the northern side of the road beyond the business units in English Close.
