The Hire Shop is listed as the Hendy-Lennox Ford dealership in the 1973 Kelly's Directory. I do not remember it as such (my memory of the area goes back to the early 1990s) but the Hire Shop has been there about five or six years. Above, according to the Kelly's, were the local branch of the National Employers' Mutual General Insurance Association Ltd., the Royal Liver Friendly Society, Crusader Insurance Co. and the Exchange Telegraph Co. Ltd. newsagency. More recently, it was the home of a fairly shortlived pool hall (if I remember rightly, after a lengthy period of vacancy), and after another stint of emptiness a dance studio has recently taken over the upstairs.
