Looking across to the edge of the vast Croxteth Park housing estate, once the largest housing estate in Europe, built on land belonging to the Croxteth Hall Estate, given to Merseyside in 1974 by Lady Sefton. The River Alt runs through the area and appears to have been the route by which Vikings arrived there, the name Croxteth deriving from Croc's Steath - Croc's landing place.
