This photo shows cottages on the corner at Ingleby Cross. The brick cottage was once the post office, whilst the one on the extreme left appears to have been the smithy. The road with the give way markings was once the A172 [now 300m to the south], but when was it reconstructed? My 1953 AA road atlas still shows this as the main road.
